Richard E. Laughlin

Richard Edward Laughlin, 73, of New Alexandria (Loyalhanna Twp.) died on Friday, December 22, 2023, in Murrysville Rehabilitation and Wellness Center, Murrysville, PA.

The son of Homer C. and Rosemary (Marron) Laughlin, he was born on May 7, 1950, in Latrobe, PA.

Rich was a veteran of the US Army and worked in the mining industry until his retirement.

He was a member of the Blairsville VFW Post #5821, and the New Alexandria Firemen’s Club.  Rich loved to hunt and fish.

Surviving is his wife of 53 years, Peggy J. (Jellison) Laughlin, whom he married on August 1, 1970; two children, Michelle Curley (Thomas) of Douglasville and Douglas E. Laughlin of Ormond Beach, FL.; three grandchildren, Ryan, Sam, and Aidan; seven siblings, Henry Laughlin (Veronica) of Huber Heights, OH, Clifford Laughlin (Susan) of Blairsville, Patrick Laughlin (Susan) of Derry, Kathleen Debnar of Suntan Valley, AZ, Margaret Ostach (Bill) of Latrobe, Theresa Laughlin of Blairsville, and Mary Rectenwald (Martin) of New Alexandria; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Kenneth Laughlin.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the funeral home with Pastor Matthew Gross officiating.

Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, New Alexandria, PA.

Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville Military Honor Guard at the cemetery.  After the services at the cemetery, a luncheon will be held at the Keystone Kitchen in the Keystone Plaza in New Alexandria.
