Richard W. Palmer, Sr.

Richard W. “Dick” Palmer Sr., 77, went to his heavenly home on Friday March 4, 2022, after a 2-year battle with cancer.

Born in Blairsville on March 31, 1944, Richard was the son of the late Richard Y. and Mary E. (Hunter) Palmer.

Mr. Palmer retired from PennDOT after 30 years of service. In his free time, he loved playing cards with his children. Richard was an avid hunter and fisher. A member of the Tide Sportsmen Club, he enjoyed the outdoors and liked gardening also. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. The family enjoyed vacationing together in the Great Smoky Mountains in Tennessee and National Parks. His loving heart and bright beautiful smile will be missed greatly.

Left to cherish his memory are his children; Tracy (Ernie) Kerekes of Madisonville, TN; Richard Palmer Jr. and fiancé Stacey Adair of Blairsville, PA; Bobbi (Denny) Shepherd of Madisonville, TN; Valerie (Larry) Markowski of Madisonville, TN; Andrew Palmer of Derry, PA; and Cassie Palmer and fiancé, Brian Shumack of New Alexandria, PA; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Laney of Derry, PA; Dolores (Palmer) Coish of Derry, PA  and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ronald Palmer, Joseph Palmer; two sisters, Joan Palmer, and Nancy (Palmer) Wissinger.

Friends will be received on Tuesday March 8, 2022, from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, 49 N. Walnut St. Blairsville, PA. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. John Buchmann officiating the service. Interment will follow at Blairsville Cemetery. Dick will be remembered as a devoted and loving father and will be loved and missed by many.
