Ronald Lee Suman, Sr.

Ronald Lee Suman, Sr., 78, of Saltsburg, PA (Young Twp.) passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020 at his home.

The son of Edward B. and Regina (Meloy) Suman, he was born April 1, 1941 in Blairsville, PA.

Mr. Suman graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1959 and was a veteran of the United States Navy.

He worked for Penelec for 26 years, retiring in 1996.

Mr. Suman was a member of West Lebanon Church of God where he was a trustee, Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM, Blairsville, Coudersport Consistory, BPOE #406, Blairsville, Indiana VFW Post #1989, Historical Society of the Blairsville Area, Saltsburg American Legion Honor Guard and a board member of the Ridge View Cemetery Association.

He loved to golf, work in and around his home, travel, especially traveling with his family and enjoyed woodcarving and wine making.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Diana L. (Heard) Suman whom he married July 26, 1972, a son, Ronald L. Suman, Jr. (Denise) of Austin, TX; two daughters, Julie D. Suman (Mark Toohey) of Columbia, MD and Amy A. Hoffman (Aviv Grover) of Annapolis, MD; two grandchildren, Lucy and Elise, three sisters, Mary Ann Ofman of Armagh; Nancy Harris of Blairsville and Linda Richards (Mike) of Avonmore; a brother, Bill Suman of Black Lick  and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father and mother-in-law, Bill and Ann Heard.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor John Mark Henry officiating.

Interment will be in Ridge View Cemetery, Saltsburg, PA.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821, American Legion Post #0407 and Saltsburg American Legion Honor Guard.
