Roxie A. Berzansky

Roxie Anne (Bence) Berzansky, 71, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, in Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.

The daughter of Harry J. and Betty J. (Thompson) Bence, she was born December 18, 1951, in Indiana, PA.

Roxie was a member of the SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville and where she served with the Angels of Compassion.

She graduated from Penns Manor High School, Class of 1969.  In 1973, she completed her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and in 1977, she received her master’s degree both from IUP.

Roxie was an Elementary school teacher for the United School District for 36 years until her retirement.

She was a captain for Relay for Life, volunteered for Story Time at the Burrell Township Library, and was nominated for a Who’s Who award in Elementary Education.

Surviving is her husband of 49 years, Francis A. "Frank" Berzansky, whom she married on August 3, 1974; her son, Jason M. Berzansky (Kristie) of South Park; three grandchildren, Alexa, Bryce, and Sophia; three siblings, Harry J. Bence, Jr. of Ormond Beach, FL, Connie L. Wolff (Bill) of Brush Valley, and Willliam J. Bence of Ormond Beach, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Carl Bence.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 13th from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville where a wake service will be held at 7:30 PM Wednesday.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Thursday at SS Simon and Jude Roman Catholic Church, 155 N. Brady St., Blairsville with Rev. Stephen R. Bugay and Rev. Segundino Laude, co-celebrants.

Interment will be in the SS Simon and Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

The family is requesting donations to be made to the Burrell Township Library P.O. Box 424, Black Lick, PA 15716 in Roxie’s memory.
