Shirley R. McLaughlin

Shirley Roselyn McLaughlin, 90, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024, in The Grove at Latrobe, Latrobe, PA.

The daughter of Orlando C. and Grace (Johnston) McLaughlin, she was born October 7, 1934, in Cowanshannock Twp, Armstrong Co., PA. 

After graduating high school, Shirley worked as a licensed practical nurse at Torrance State Hospital for 35 years, retiring in 1991. She lived in the Blairsville area for most of her life.

Shirley was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Blairsville where she served as a Deacon. 

She loved the Steelers and all animals, working outside, crocheting, and reading. Shirley’s greatest joy was always spending time with her family.

Surviving is one sister, Nadine Ponder of Sneads Ferry, NC; a special niece, Kathleen Shafer (Michael) of Bradenville; two great nephews, Alex Foster of Denver, CO and Cameron Foster of Bradenville; and numerous other nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Chester and Vernon McLaughlin, three sisters, Bernice McMeans, Lois Rearick, and Doris Penn, and a special nephew, Gerard Penn.

Per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 11 AM at  The Shoemaker Funeral Home, 49 N. Walnut St., with Pastor Terry Semsick officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to an animal rescue or charity of your choice.
