Shirley J. Rook

Shirley Jean (Smith) Rook, 88, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.

The daughter of Elder C. and Eva L. (Shields) Smith, she was born February 21, 1936, in Blacklick Township.

Shirley graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1954. She was a member of Hopewell Church in Blacklick Township.

She worked at American Key Punch, Monroeville, UPMC, Koppers Building, Pittsburgh, and Penn State also as a key punch operator.  Later in she life worked as a home healthcare aide.

Surviving are two brothers, John Smith of Blairsville, and Donald Smith (Karen) of Blairsville; a sister-in-law, Pamela Smith of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald Rook on March 22, 2005, brother Richard Smith, and her sister-in-law, Ruth Smith.

Per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service at this time. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville is entrusted with the arrangements.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
